At Abarb Pest Services, we know that our pests aren’t just animals or another mouth to feed. They’re a part of the family, and as such, they deserve to feel healthy and safe, just like us.
Unfortunately, fleas don’t share that opinion and seem determined to agitate them.
Even worse, it can seem impossible to keep those pests away from your four-legged friend. But over the years, we’ve picked up some ways that you can do it! That said, here is our list of quick tips to keep your loved one healthy!
1. A Good Bath.
There’s more than one type of wash or shampoo that can kill fleas. For that reason, it should be the first step you take in preventing fleas and eliminating them.
A couple of quick solutions are lemon baths and any pet-friendly lathering shampoo.
Lemon baths are especially good if you don’t have shampoo to do the trick on its own. All you have to do is dilute half a cup of lemon juice in two cups of warm water. Then add a bit of regular shampoo, and boom, you’re good to go!
As we said, any pet-friendly lathering shampoo could also do the job! Although, if you’re looking with the specific intention to kill fleas, some specialize in it and repelling ticks.
2. Use Flea-Repelling Collars and Combs.
After giving your four-legged friend a solid bath, keep the fleas away with a comb and collar.
You can find a ton of good flea repellent collars at your local store. As far as combs go, the repellent properties of lemon can come in handy here too. Just dip your dogs’ brush into some lemon juice and brush normally– for short-haired dogs, try using a cloth.
3. Clean the House Thoroughly.
Once you’ve given your pet a good cleaning, it’s your home’s turn. We don’t mean taking a wipe to the counter either.
Grab the vacuum and thoroughly clean any rugs, carpets or upholstery. That will sweep up any fleas that jumped ship at some point.
Bonus Tip!
Fleas and ticks like to hide in moist, tucked away areas in your backyard. If you can help it, keep your pet from going near that area. That will reduce the risk of picking up more hitchhikers.
