Signs You May Have a Bed Bug Problem in Your Home

The presence of bed bugs will have you begging your pest control expert to stop by as soon as possible. Not only are they embarrassing, but they are potentially hazardous to you and your family’s health. If you even slightly suspect that you might have a bedbug infestation, do not hesitate to contact a trusted professional.

Bed bugs enter the home at attaching themselves to luggage, your clothing, used furniture, and other outside influences. If you have any of these items in your home, you may find that the likelihood of having bed bugs increases.

Bed bugs often hide in beds, mattresses, headboards, and springboards. If you think that you might have some unexpected visitors in your home,  keep your eyes open for these signs of infestation.

Bite marks

If your body is itchier than normal or if you have red welts on your body, there is a good chance you could have a bed bug problem. Another sign is a burning sensation on your body.

It may also have a burning feeling.

Blood Spots

Bed bugs are nocturnal and feed at night, and sometimes they leave evidence behind. When looking for signs of a bed bug infestation, check the bed and the areas around it for small blood spots that may have been left after feeding.

Excrement and Skin

A sure sign of a bed bug infestation is the physical materials they leave behind. Be on the lookout for their excrement as well as the shells they have shed from their bodies.

Getting Rid of Bed Bugs

Getting rid of bed bugs involves a bit of effort. First, strip the sheets and wash them in hot water and dry them on the hottest setting to make sure they are dead.

Next, use a stiff brush to scrub the mattress to eliminate the infestation. After this step, use the vacuum to lift up what you have scrubbed. Then, immediately take the vacuum and the bag outside to avoid potential contamination. Frequently vacuum the bed and the area around it. Also, repair any cracks in the walls where they could potentially enter.

Finally, cover the mattress with a casing. Bed bugs can live up to a year without eating, and covering your mattress will help to ensure no bugs transfer to your bed or escape. Also, remove any clutter around the bed where they could hide as an extra measure of keeping them from returning.
